about STEK

Our home should be a place where children and adults feel at ease: warm, comfortable, and inviting. We love to surround ourselves with stuff we all like and enjoy. STEK is about these things: simple forms that invite children to sit and play the way they like it. Basic design that fits in any interior; child-like shapes and colours are avoided. Robust handmade wooden furniture that may last a lifetime or more. And everything 'made in Holland'.

sustainable

Sustainability is about making products that last and are produced responsibly.

Our makers share our philosophy: responsible production with love and care. We use 18 mm FSC birch plywood, which we colour with water-based stain and finish with matte varnish. All of this is tested to current safety standards and is safe for children.

As a latest development, we've added Ecoplex to our product range: plywood made from sustainably grown European poplar wood finished with an HPL top layer. The HPL is produced in the Netherlands in an energy-neutral way and bonded without formaldehyde. This makes the furniture indestructible and eliminates the need for stain or lacquer finishes.

We've eliminated glued joints so the furniture can be completely disassembled after its long lifespan, and all components can be recycled separately. Everything is designed and made locally, right here in the Netherlands.

always flexible!

Our furniture is versatile, even in the grown-up world. We use it as a bedside table, plant stool, foot stool, or side table. But of course, you can also just sit on it!

redesigned

Our furniture has been around for over ten years. We're still very happy with the design, but it needed to be more sustainable.

That's what's been keeping us busy for the past few years. We've replaced glued joints with clever, removable fasteners. This makes our furniture not only easy to assemble, but also easy to disassemble.

We've also added a new material to the collection, eliminating the need for staining and varnishing: Ecoplex made from poplar wood with an HPL top layer. We treat the end edges with furniture oil, which retains the STEK look while making them less vulnerable. This makes our STEKkies even more robust.

Our updated STEKkies look the same as always, but they offer a little more. And we can ship them to you flat-packed. That saves a lot of shipping space, a lot of glue, and makes the world a little better!
